New Earth Theatre is looking for BESEA artists who want to contribute to a Climate Justice Festival in March 2025.
“This is the great burden that now rests upon writers, artists, filmmakers, and everyone else who is involved in the telling of stories: to us falls the task of imaginatively restoring agency and voice to nonhumans. As with all the most important artistic endeavours in human history, this is a task that is at once aesthetic and political—and because of the magnitude of the crisis that besets the planet, it is now freighted with the most pressing moral urgency.”
- Amitav Ghosh, The Nutmeg’s Curse
Inspired by The Nutmeg’s Curse by Amitav Ghosh, we are looking for creative pieces that explore the stories of our natural environments, our non-human peers, and how these can shape our views and actions in a world in crisis. We are specifically interested in the idea of “re-animating” (or restoring agency and spirit to) non-human life.
We are looking to bring together 2-4 artists to create a 45min devised piece, to be presented at a collaborative Climate Justice Festival in London, in March 2025.
Rehearsals take place Mon-Fri (10am-6pm) 17- 28 March 2025, with sharing on the 29th. Artists must be fully available during this period to apply.
Call Out is open to all artforms:
To Apply:
We will invite 4 artists to explore their rapid response further - paid £200 for the equivalent of a day’s work.
From these responses we hope to create a team of 2-4 artists who are able to incorporate their work over a two-week rehearsal period (paid at ITC rate), resulting in a one-off devised piece directed by Ailin Conant and to be presented at the Climate Justice Festival in London.
